I saw this bird sitting very calmly outside my bedroom window.
It sat there for a long time;
then jumped down to look for something on the ground;
and finally flew back to the same perch.
After looking in my bird book and on line, I think it is a Hermit Thrush.
However, I have never seen one before, so what do you think?
It also looks similar to a Wood Thrush....I'm just not positive.

Nice photos! It actually looks very similar to our Swainson's Thrush.
I can't help with the i.d. but your pictures are so lovely Janice. We are enjoying watching the birds come to our bird bath this week. One day last week, our high temp was 97 degrees!
We are having a very nice weekend and I hope you are too. We are having leftovers of the onion casserole for supper tonight - I love having leftovers!!!
Wishing you a very nice week.
I forget if I have asked you if you visit my sis, Karen's blog. She is in IN also. http://karen-lilyvalley.blogspot.com

Very lovely shots Janice! It's definitely a thrush but I'm not familiar with them; had a rare visit from one last year but didn't get a good photo dang it!
Hi Janice, I wish I could help you... I don't have know that bird--but see similar ones around here which I cannot identify.... Hope you find out what he is.... He's really pretty.
Hugs,
Betsy
I agree with the Hermit Thrush ID. Great capture.
Janice, Thanks so much for visiting me and for your kind words. I love to watch birds and will enjoy looking back through your posts. I will also need to check out the study you mentioned by Randy Alcorn! God bless you.
Hi Janice, I don't have an email add. for you but I did want to say thanks for your visit/comment on the Magnolia post. Funny you mention remembering the sound of the Mourning Doves out your window. Where we have moved now, the Mourning Doves sit outside my window every morning. It is cool enough to open my windows early and I enjoy the birds so much. Wishing you a restful night and a happy Tuesday. Thanks for visiting Karen. I know she appreciates it. Her youngest son graduated from IU last week and moved away! She is struggling with missing him!
Wow...great find! I never see these at my house.
