Fraidy Cat Sees Red

Let me introduce you to Fraidy Cat. She came to live with us this May after my son got married. She had always been a very "one person cat," and until recently hissed at me if I even walked in the same room with her. Needless to say, she did not get along with my son's new family and their cat, so she now has taken up residence in my sewing/computer room.

We have made a lot of progress in the last three months. I can touch her, pet her, play with her and most of the time she is purring. She is happy to see me and my husband, because she thinks we will give her a treat. Initially I felt like I had to "pay the troll" a treat in order to get into the room where I work quite a bit of the time. Now she even jumps up on my lap while I am talking on the telephone.....I must say though, I am still hesitant to try to pick her up.....but I know she loves me and misses my company.

One night I saw a TV show about the different breeds of cats, and they mentioned that cats only see in three colors...RED being one of them, and that is when I realized that Fraidy did indeed see RED. She has become quite a bird watcher, but every so often she gets rather vocal. I usually get up to see what is out there, and most of the time it is a Cardinal. So this post is to share with you Fraidy's special RED friends.

Here is Fraidy curled up on her perch by the window.

And this is how the birds see her from outside.

Early on, the Cardinals seemed to prefer to eat on the ground,
and usually in the early morning or towards dark......not the
best time of day to get a good picture.

After a while they got brave enough to come throughout the day to the platform feeder.

And also to a smaller feeder.

Here they look like they look like they both had been
to the hairdresser and had new "hairdos."

When they are really hungry, they can come to the kitchen deck, but that doesn't happen too often. I guess I must have been late putting out the feeders that morning. He has kind of a worried look in his eye.

Here are a couple of other favorites from this past Spring

Janice, First thank you for stopping by my blog and always leaving such nice comments..
Second: Your 'Fraidy' cat is adorable. So healthy looking and I swear it appears she has eye liner on those beautiful eyes. I will have to research the 'seeing red' you tell us about. I have always had a cat and didn't know that. Love your cardinal shots. Aren't they the bright spot in any day?

Hi, Janice. I was going to say that I think Fraidy cat has excellent taste in birds, but I realized that would not be such a good thing. Haha. I just meant that red is my favorite color, too!
Blessings!

Haha! What a cool post! I didn't know cats saw red...that must explain why Bip gets very excited when "Red" comes into view too! :-) I'm very happy Fraidy Cat is settling in with you and is showing affection.
...haha...Adrienne's comment is funny!

Fraidy is such a pretty girl!
Awesome post, I didn't know cats could only see 3 colours. How neat that Fraidy gets vocals when she sees the cardinals! That's so cool!
Great pictures, especially the one with the worried look, heehee, cutie bird :)

It is difficult for new owner and pet a like, I think, to enter each other's lives as adults and get along.
We babysat our daughter's cat for three months this past winter..and there is no doubt about it that he is her cat.. he is a well-behaved cat and uses his scratch boards, litter box etc..but he only has eyes for her..We gave him his space and after about 4 weeks he would come into the family room at night and curl up on his blanket near the dog..but he didn't want anyone to touch him..so I have to say you did really well getting Fraidy to accept you and curl up on your lap in such a short time.!!
