This morning it was raining pretty hard. I finally dashed out on my kitchen deck and hung out a couple of feeders. It wasn't long until it looked like an airport with all the take offs and landings.
It wasn't too long until a couple of little hummingbirds
were buzzing around the deck. I had neglected to put out
Sometime later, this beautiful Mourning Dove landed on the deck railing. I see these doves frequently feeding on the ground or occasionally on a platform feeder closer to the ground.
Today I think it decided to risk flying up to the deck to check out what was happening; for you see, because of the rain, I hadn't put any food out down below. I had forgotten all about him.
The dove apparently decided it did not want to risk hanging from the feeder
....... and would just wait below for one of the "little guys" to drop some seeds down.

Ahh. We have quite a few doves and they are patient waiters..like you said. I like your first feeder with the copper looking leaves!
Neat pics..hope it gets sunny there real soon.
Great pictures Janice. Our Doves will only go to the big plate feeder... BUT--they do a great job cleaning up the deck floor --and the ground below. I think the Mourning Doves never get full!!!! ha
I notice that our birds eat more when it's raining ---or starting to rain. They SCRAMBLE to the feeders at those times.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi there, We're home from our 2-day Hendersonville adventure. The plumbing is fixed and the folks are happy (I hope).
George's parents are 89 abd 97 (next week). They still live by themselves and have never had a prescription drug. Amazing, huh??? The only problem with them now is Macular Degeneration --both of them. BUT--they are still determined to keep on living alone. We alternate with George's sister --and go to Hendersonville (2.5 hours away from us) every other week (except for this week--when we have gone twice).
Hugs,
Betsy
August is so quiet in my yard...I am surprised to see your nice variety of birds coming to the feeders. I have Doves right now too.. hanging out in the grass and using the birdbath. Nice pictures!!

Wonderful photos, Janice. Whenever I get busy doing something else in the morning, my daughter comes to find me and announces "The birds look annoyed, Mom."
