A Dirty Old Buzzard
However, this Turkey Vulture got caught in
a sudden rain shower,
and decided it was time
to clean itself up.
I was amazed at all the contortions
this bird made while
it was primping and preening.
You have to get those tail feathers
just right!!

We see them when we go to Mt. Nebo in Arkansas... They are not pretty ---but we saw them up-close when we were on a hike in Arkansas ---and we were surprised how LARGE they are.... We saw about 12 of them while coming upon their nesting place while hiking. Of course they took off ---but we did enjoy seeing them so close to us...
They are known as 'clean up' birds since they eat meat ---including dead animals....
Great group of pictures... To be so ugly, they obviously do a good job of staying CLEAN!!!!!

Betsy
Turkey Vultures may not have beautiful faces, but they are so gorgeous as they soar on those two-toned wings. You got some amazing shots of this one.
