A Red-Tailed Hawk
I haven't seen any "different" or unusual birds
around here for quite some time.
But today, I saw a lot of activity
at the top of a broken-off tree in the valley.
This Red-Tailed Hawk had apparently
made his "catch of the day".
After I went outside to get his picture,
he sat pretty still for quite a while.
I guess he was watching me too.
Of course, when I got tired of waiting
and picked up the camera to go inside,
he flew off carrying his prize.
It would have made a great picture.
I guess it is kind of like
the "big fish" that got away.

What a beauty, Janice... I know that we have hawks around here --but I seldom see them. I guess I should be glad though since I don't want them catching my little songbirds....
Happy Thanksgiving.
Hugs,
Betsy
Oh you got great shots of him. Yes the in flight shot would have been good, perhaps next time. :)
What a beautiful animal. Thanks for sharing Janice :)
...these are wonderful captures of a gorgeous bird!
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Beautiful photos, Janice. I am taking a break from posting on my blog during the holidays. Hope you are doing well and looking forward to Christmas.
Hi Ms Janice, it's amazing how different bird species abound near where you live.
I'm sorry about Paul Walker, the actor from "Fast and Furious." I heard he died in a car accident while busy helping the typhoon victims in the Philippines.
I love how you framed these! It makes this magnificent bird look even more magnificent and lovely! I love seeing the hawks...except around my feeders.
You, asked if the snow geese stay all winter....yes, they do. This area down along the Ohio river is a safe place for them from Oct. to March. It is surrounded by hunting areas, but there is a huge refuge where they can stay all winter.
