New Birds-- ID?

Over the Christmas Holidays we were blessed to spend time with the families of both of our daughters, one in St. Louis and the other in Texas.

Our daughter and her husband in Texas recently moved to the hill country on the Southwest side of Austin.  When we visted them this past spring, they were living in the city and I hardly saw any birds; but now I was suprised to see many of the birds that I see here in Indiana at the feeder in thier backyard.  They had the Chickadees, the Titmouse, the House Finch, the Carolina Wren, the Cardinal and the Blue Jay.   Much to my delight, there were a couple of new birds I had never seen before.

The first I believe is a Western Scrub Jay.

The second bird I almost missed. The sun in the morning was so bright it
was sometimes hard to see. I feel sure it is a Warbler. Maybe a Pine Warbler or a Yellow Warbler. If anyone has any better ideas, please let me know.

Their backyard does border a natural wildlife area.
We definitely heard the coyotes' howling very close at night.
They have seen a Road Runner in their backyard.
I missed seeing one, so I guess I will need to go back.

Good Evening! I am no help identifying these birds but they sure are beautiful. How very grand to be able to photograph these. Yes, you definitely will have to return - I'd love to see the road runner picture!

If I ever lived in Texas again--I would choose the Hill Country. Looks like they have a beautiful home there. Glad you saw so many birds. That is some kind of Warbler --but I don't know which one. We don't have them here. That Jay is pretty also...

Happy 2013, Janice.
Hugs,
Betsy

Lovely! That jay is so different from ours and very pretty. Isn't it great to see new birds?? I would not know about the warbler. I too, was surprised how much the birds in Texas were like ours here. I was on the eastern side of the state back in November...my sister lives east of Dallas. I look for road runners every time we go to Arizona, but the two times I've seen one it was running across the road ahead of our car and no chance of a photo. Maybe some day!

These are lovely birds - very colorful and a far cry from the usual ones I see in this side of the world! It is a delight too for me to see such birds even in photos.

Take care, Ms Janice! :)

...my guess would be Western Scrub Jay too. I've never seen one in person, but want to! I need to get out of this eastern part of the US!
