Guess Who Came for Lunch Today?

While I was having lunch today,
this beautiful creature landed on a nearby branch.

Perhaps I should mention
that it was looking directly at
all my bird feeders.

I guess we know what kind of lunch
he had in mind.

At one point,
I think he might have seen me.

But my presence did not seem
to bother him.

Opps -- Where's his head?

Did I mention,
I'm not sure what kind of a Hawk this is?
Maybe a juvenile Red-Shouldered Hawk.
Let me know, if you have another idea.

Have a Great Day!!

The "Big Storm" is Past

They said this may be our
big storm for this winter.
That would be nice.

Here is my husband digging us out.

Here are some of our birds
during all the snow.

A couple of "snowbirds" -- Dark-eye Juncos

A sweet, little Carolina Wren.

A couple of woodpeckers--

The Red-Bellied

and the Downey

A handsome Yellow-shafted Flicker

And a pretty, little Nuthatch.

Thank you to God, our Creator,
for the beauty and wonder of each season.

"For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise."

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Winter has formally appeared.
Some snow, wind and sub-zero temps,
and some hungry birds
sporting their fluffy, winter coats/feathers.

This pretty Mourning Dove
usually prefers to eat on the ground
but flew up to our deck to eat.

This sweet little Titmouse
was swinging in the breeze.

We were also visited by a small flock
of Pine Siskin.

 A number of Goldfinch
were also anxiously looking for food.

And, of course, the Woodpeckers
were taking turns at the suet feeder.

It can warm up anytime!!!!!

Butterflies and Moths

Recently I have been seeing
some beautiful
Tiger Swallowtails
enjoying our hydrangea tree.

A few weeks ago I saw a couple of
Luna Moths.
When we first moved here 47 years ago,
we had a lot of these moths,
plus many other really big ones
that flapped against our windows at nights.
Now we don't see them very often.

A couple of weeks ago,
we visited the Butterfly gardens
at Chesterfield, MO.

The butterflies there were more exotic,
and I don't know their names.

This one was enjoying himself
outside of the Butterfly House
in the Butterfly Garden.

They are always a delight to see,
and another example of the beauty
in God's creation.

One Year Later -- New Head Gear

Last year in September.
I posted a blog about three young deer
that visited our yard in the afternoons.

Well, they are back.
While last year all we saw were the spots on their backs,
we now know, there are two bucks and one doe.

The doe poses beautifully, as she did a year ago,
and has such a sweet face and large beautiful ears.
(The two guys seem to have made her their "lookout.")

The lighting was not the greatest yesterday,
so none of my pictures of the two bucks
turned out very well.
But here are a couple of pictures of each one
with their lovely sister
showing off their new head gear.

Wishing you a beautiful day
filled with good surprises!
